ImagineFX have stomped ahead and the vidcp for that SKetchbook Pro workshop is already loaded on their Youtube channel.  I've included a link to it in this journal entry, and have stored a more permanent link in my vidcap link box on my profile page.  The box has also been updated with the Fancy a Dunk vidcap link and another to one about creating a swirling effect in ArtRage done at the same time.  More to follow soon for those among you who have trouble getting to sleep . . . . .

April issue of ImagineFx magazine saw another me lucky enough to have another two entires in the Q&A section on show.  I had time to cobble a vidcap together for each of these - and I use the word cobble advisedly.  I'm not your slick movie maker and you need to be prepared for a god deal of extraneous waffle, which reflects the way I tend to work anyhow.  May issue is already out on the shelves and one of the vidcaps has been released (or maybe it just escaped . . . ?) onto the the IFX Youtube channel.  It relates to the image shown here and is using ArtRage 3.55, in case any of you are interested or have a thing for waffle.

Lucky enough to have been asked to supply another little workshop for my favourite magazine around Christmas.  It's in issue 93 which hit the shelves February 1st in the UK, but should be available elsewhere in download format if you inhabit more interesting places and fancy a look.  It's just me playing about to create an image in SKetchbook Pro which stands as my equal favourite software with ArtRage.  They each have different things to offer and are both great.

Sketchbook Pro really is worth a look if you haven't taken advantage of the free trial already.  Don't take my word - track down the Bobby Chiu vidcap where he shows how he created the box cover image.  It's great as most Chiu content is.  He works in a different way to me, exploiting the adjustement controls to boost layer contrast after painting in subtle shades.  I go more with building up tonal range through an accumulation of layers set to multiply.  There's a vidcap I did to accomapny it the IFX magazine disk for those interested enough to buy it.  With a bit of luck the IFX crew might slap it into their Youtube stream at a later date if not.  Typically waffley stuff from me.

About Time

2 min read
Hi Guys,
Although a hectic work schedule is no excuse for such a long silence, that's the one I'm going to lob in here.  As deadlines get relentlessly tighter and I dither at my usual pace, the combination eats up my time and energy like never before.  Exciting but tiring is the best description.  My period of silence has seen me complete five book projects, each requiring 10-15 internal illustrations and perhaps a cover, plus I've been lucky enough to have had a pretty regular slot in the ImagineFX magazine Q&A squad.  For me it's the best magazine about digital painting avaialble at the moment, whether fantasy and sci-fi is your particular bag or not.  The range of software and techniques covered is of use to anyone interested in drawing and painting on a whirring box of any description, I-Pad included.

The magazine has also recenty dropped two vid-caps I have done for them onto Youtube.  An older one (A New Breed of Gold-Digger) about using watercolour in ArtRage that came out when version 3 of the software had only just excaped, and one just done about painting an armoured bird (Knight Owl) - both images are in my gallery here.
The links are below for anyone interested.
I've also copied them into the dedicated tutorial link box further down, along with a link to an isue of ArtRageUS magazine from earlier in 2012 that has another AR tutorial in it.

Tuesdy December 14th at 2pm GMT (UK) - which equals 3pm in France and 9am or so in the US and Canada -
The very talented and lovely Cris Delara will be chatting about fantasy art, and in particular Pin-Ups, while she works her digital magic on screen, at It'sArt Live.  Recently this has included characters such as Hulk and God of War - so don't be fooled into thinking it's only female frippery on offer.

Click banner to go there - but not a lot will be going on there until the scheduled time.
or use this link - www.itsartmag.com/ialivechat.h…

The third live session of ArtRage based content goes out Monday December 13th at 2.30pm GMT (UK).
Jon  Hodgson, Gaeton Laprade. (well known in the Ambient forum for his outstanding explanations as Someonesane) and myself will be comparing notes on how we use the various Wet and Dry media tools in ArtRage, while working live on screen.    You can lob your own questions and comments in using the text messaging service provided on the page.
Or you can post them in advance to this forum thread  -  www.itsartmag.com/forum/viewto…
You need to register free with It'sArtMag.com and log in to be able to do so.

It's still a young project, but gathering momentum fast.
Many thanks to Patrice Leymarie, the man behind It'sArt, without whose tireless efforts none of this would be possible.
